DIRECTIONS
Cast on 28, (32, 34, 36, 36, 38, 46, 48) sts using a long tail cast-on method.
Rows 1-5 (all sizes): *k1, p1* to end of row. (5 rows of ribbing)
Rows 6-11 (12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23): Knit in stockinette (Knit on the RS, purl on the WS). When you reach the end of row 3, (5, 5, 5, 7, 11, 11, 11) join to work in the round and continue stockinette.
Continue to knit all sts for the remaining 3, (2, 3, 43, 4, 2, 5, 7) rounds.  (There will be 6, (7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 16, 18) rows/rounds of stockinette in total after the ribbing)
Decrease the crown as follows (all sizes):
K2, then *k2tog*, repeat * * to 1 st before the end of the row, k1. If you have 2 stitches left, k1 each.
Knit all sts
K1, then *k2tog*, repeat * * to 1 st before the end of the row, k1.
Knit all sts
*K2tog*, repeat to end of round. If you have one st left, k the last st.
Cut thread leaving approx. 15cm tail. Using a darning needle, thread the tail through the remaining sts and pull firm. Pull the tail through to the inside of the hat and thread the yarn through the stitches. Pull firm and weave in the end.
Weave in the tail from the cast on edge.

BRAIDED TIES
Cut six lengths of yarn just over twice the length you wish the ties to be. Using a large crochet hook or darning needle, thread three pieces of yarn through each corner of the cast-on edge of the bonnet. Arrange them so they are even lengths on both sides. Holding the three separate pieces of yarn you can now plait to about 4-5cm from the end and then tie a knot. Trim the ends for a neat finish.

TIES OPTION FOR NEWBORN SIZE
Cut two lengths of yarn approximately 40cm/15” long. Thread one piece of yarn through each corner of the cast-on edge of the bonnet. Arrange them so they are even lengths on both sides. Holding two strands together, tie a knot at the base of the bonnet. Repeat for the other tie.
